First an amazing woman gave me 2 Fast Track passes to see the Tall Ships. I went early, I thought, to find a parking place hopefully close. I did find one fairly close and got in before they were collecting money! LOL
I saw that I would have to walk a lot and decided to take my walker for stability and a place to sit when I got tired. Was a good decision.
I didn't realize I was in the 'group' entrance and they let us in earlier than I expected. Beautiful weather, gorgeous! Sunny and bright. I have pics but left them in the car.
Anyway, I boarded the Elyssa, out of Galveston, TX. I've been aboard her before when she sailed into Corpus Christi. Another story for later.
Walked around looking at the other ships, talking to several folks. Met a very nice old man from Europe who is sailing around the world on the ship he was on, forgot the name. What a joy and blessing to make that trip. I would have loved it.
Spoke to several of the other sailors from The Netherlands, France, Australia, and of course the good old USA.
Spent some time visiting with a young Coastie too. It was so early that most of the food and exhibits were not open yet. I spent a good 2 hours wandering around and totally enjoying myself.
That was blessing number one!
I thought it was strange that no one ever took my ticket so when I left for the car I still had 2 tickets! Kept asking if people had tickets as I wanted to give them away. Then a nice older couple came walking by as I was stowing my walker and said they didn't have tickets yet. WAHOO! They were stunned as I handed them 2 fast pass tickets! Wanted to pay me or something and of course I said NO as I hadn't paid for them anyway. What a Joy to see the looks on their faces...
Blessing number two.
Got gas on the way home and was going to head to WallyWorld for a few groceries. As I got up to the Brownsville church area I saw that they had a food distribution going on! I generally take advantage of those when I can.
Got so much stuff I have to share. The biggie was getting nearly a case of cucumbers!! When I told the girl I hadn't had fresh food in so long, very true, she put more in my car! Got home and found lettuce, tomatoes, either mangoes or papayas, and a lot of okra.
