My Bible study for today came from 1 Chronicles 17:1-4 and 16-25.
In the first part David plans to create a wonderful temple for the Ark. However, God tells him that he is not the one... God has chosen another for the task. When David found out that his son Solomon was to build the temple, he did all he could to help.
"Bible commentator J.G. McConville wrote: 'Often we may have to accept that the work which we would dearly like to perform in terms of Christian service is not that for which we are best equipped, and not that to which God has in fact called us. It may be, like David's, a preparatory work, leading to something more obviously grand.'" (Our Daily Bread Saturday March 25, 2017)
I can imagine how that must have hurt David. I can remember many times when I thought I was supposed to do something grand in the service of God, only to be told that I was not the one. God blesses me in many ways, some known and some unknown.
I've learned in my almost 77 years that God will tell me what He wants me to do in His service. Sometimes I think I'm supposed to do something but the opportunity doesn't come along. Other times the opportunity pops up and I prayerfully accept the challenge.
I'm in great hopes that by spreading God's love to everyone I meet seeds will be planted and someone might find the Lord through my little efforts. I will probably never know but that is okay, God knows!
God may conceal the purpose of His ways, but His ways are not without purpose.
