I'm afraid that Tequila's back is giving him probs again. Especially in this cold weather, and he does not like sweaters. I find him sometimes in the downward dog pose, stretching out his spine, and the look he gives me makes me see pain in his eyes. He seems to be handling it okay though, with special compensations. He no longer wants to climb the stairs up to the couch and bed. AND he sometimes is hesitant to walk down the steps, let alone jump off the couch or bed as Chloe does. Yet, some days I see him jumping up on the futon, as he did when Sandy was here. I watch him carefully and if he seems unusually hurting I do give him a low dose aspirin.
Some days I watch him 'trot' back to the house when I call them in, other days he races!! So it's not an 'all the time' pain. He's a lot like me, good on the warm, sunny days and not so good on the chilly, rainy ones and really not good when the fronts come through.. He does 'squeak' once in a while but it's nothing compared to the screaming he did last year when he was in major pain.. I could not handle that again as it broke my heart! Even Linda across the street heard him and it gave her shivvers. I pray that doesn't ever happen again. My concerns about Chloe are different. I've known from the get go that she has major anxiety, especially during thunder storms. I discovered that she also has separation anxiety. When my sis was here and I left to visit my little princess, Chloe sat on Sandy's lap and shivvered the whole time. One time I had taken them to the store with me and my friend Mel went out to see them. She came back and said that Chloe was shaking like a leaf. I know that Chloe, like Renniew was in many ways, is like velcro to my hip. I love it at night, her warm butt backed up to my back, but I do not like the thought that she is upset when I have to leave her.. and I do leave a lot, daily in the summer. I've ordered some medication that is supposed to help with the anxiety and if that doesn't work I will order the Essential Oils calming that did work for her in the past, but is expensive. Every morning, after I go potty, we have a kissy face session on the bed. I tell them how much I love them and we thank Jesus for another day together. They are so happy to do it and those kisses help me through my day!! So much love I am blessed with. Every night when we go to bed I once again ask them if they had a good day? Tell them how much they make my day better and again thank Jesus for giving us a good day. Chloe, with her quick tongue, gives me kisses and Tequila gives me hugs. From the first he hugged me and it turns me into a puddle! Head butting my head.. and we both are saying 'awwwww'! I am so blessed. I just want them to know how much I love them and how much they mean to me! Surprisingly I slept like a rock! Woke up with NO DOGS in bed with me, what?? When I got up I found them sleeping in their beds on the floor and the steps moved away from the bed. Stairway to nowhere!! LOL Now, I know Chloe can jump high enough to get up on the bed! She can jump up on the chairs, she did so when Sandy Jecmen-Fierce and I were playing cards on the porch. Wondering why she didn't jump up. Tequila is another story as his back prevents him from coming up the steps. He'll come to the side of the bed and ask me to pick him up like Renniew always did, I called it their elevator! They were very happy to see me get out of bed. Just wonder why no one barked at me to let me know eh?
Stickers in the yard are no fun. We have 3 kinds actually. We have the sand burrs with horrible hooks on each end of their barbs, and they have a lot as they are orb shaped. We have the flat, round ones that grow in a row but break apart to single rounds. And we have the 1/4 inch long black thin ones that look like needles. All 3 kinds love my babies!
Tequila has an undercoat that attracts the stickers and he loves to investigate among the bushes where the stickers hide from the lawn mower. He gets the most of them hands down. Chloe, on the other hand, gets them mostly when she's wearing her sweater, like today. She came in and wanted to cuddle but she was more like a porcupine than a dog! lol I took the sweater off her and was pulling the out and have just about decided to make her a new one instead!! lol Poor Chloe has such anxiety during thunder storms I must get the essential oils that can help her. However, I found out this week that she also has separation anxiety! YIKES!! While I was gone to visit my little princess at the school, Chloe was in my sister Sandy's lap the whole time just shaking. I sure hope she doesn't do that when I leave them, but I suspect she does. I know that when I took them with me in the car to the store, my friend went out to see them and came back saying that Chloe was shaking really bad. I hope the essential oil will help all of that.
I will also research how to help my little girl. Leaving her with an article of my clothing doesn't work as when I leave them at home she burrows into the bedding and my scent is definitely on there. Tequila has really perked up with Chloe in his life. He plays with her and they really have bonded. I honestly didn't want to get another dog. When Renniew died I was very happy to just have him, but he was sooooooo lonely. Chloe has been a real blessing to both of us. She is such a happy little girl and so good! She brings me much joy! I delight in letting them out in the am and seeing her go romping out into the yard! She loves to be outside and harass the neighbors and those passing by. But if they came up to the fence? If she doesn't know ya she'll back up big time. At my Christmas party she was barking and growling ferociously until a bunch of folks were in the house and she was ensconced under my chair! lol Until her momma Eva arrived and Chloe was thrilled to sit in her lap, and Paul's lap, but still was growling! She thinks she's a toughy!! She has won my heart...... I cannot begin to explain the joy my babies give me. Last night I was coming in from the porch, shut the door and sat down, giving Tequila a few pats and wondering why Chloe wasn't next to me. HMMMM Then I looked up and saw 2 little black pointy ears peeking over the storm door to the porch!! How did she get out there?? Later I let them out before bed. When I looked out to see where they were I saw Tequila out way back and when he saw me he started trotting to the door. I didn't see Chloe anywhere! So after he came in I was calling her and felt something on my leg, looked down and there she was! The little chit snuck in when I wasn't looking! Since she's black I don't always see her..
When I let them out and watch her happily run out into the yard it brings me great joy!!! Actually almost everything about them both gives me great JOY! Anyone out there ever watch "The Dog Whisperer?" I find it interesting and hysterical at the same time. Today he is trying to help a young man who's little dog bites him a lot. lol
When he feeds the dog he has a ritual and says the dog won't eat if he does it any other way?? WTH?? You are the one who is trained man, not your dog! lol It's like my two. They are trained to receive a treat when the come inside from going potty outside! This started when I was trying to get Renniew to go outside more. She would never tell me when she needed to go out, was trained to pee on old tshirts in their room. IF she was already outside and had to go she would potty out there, but never got the idea of tell me to put her out. At the old house they had a dog door and it was easier for us both. So now Chloe does tell me she needs out and for the majority of the time goes potty outside, as does Tequila. If it's raining hard, or during the night, I have fake grass pads in their room and they go on them. But mostly they go outside. However, there are times they ask to go out, do not possibly go potty in that short a time, and still want a treat! lol They only get half to a fourth of one anyway, but I know I am the one trained. |
